Entering Scotland: Tips for Delegates

All visitors must have valid travel documents and identification to enter the UK, such as a passport or visa.

Travel Requirements

Most visitors, apart from British and Irish citizens, need either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter or pass through the UK.

The IMS strongly recommend that all delegates check as soon as possible the rules for entering the UK from their respective countries and the passport on which they will travel.

How to Apply for an ETA

You can apply for an ETA online. It costs £16 (note: it will cost £20 to apply for an ETA from 8 April 2026) and lets you visit the UK multiple times, staying up to six months each time.

The ETA is valid for two years from the date you apply, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

Find out more about travel requirements by visiting the UK Government.

Note: If you need a visa to enter the UK, do not apply for an ETA.
